The One unique starting point from which all else has arisen.<\/p>\n

The One source from which all of creation springs forth.<\/p>\n

The One whose unity includes all that appears as diverse, separate or individual.<\/p>\n

From the root w-h<\/span>-d which has the following classical Arabic connotations:<\/p>\n

to be one, to be made one, to be called one
\nto connect, join, unite
\nto be unique, singular
\nto be one apart from others<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This name is used in the Qur’\u0101n. For example, see 39:4<\/p>\n

The ancient roots of Ah<\/span>ad point toward to the essential qualities which describe Unity, while the ancient roots of W\u0101h<\/span>id point toward the manifestations which arise from that Unity.<\/p>\n

That which is Ah<\/span>ad cannot be divided into parts, or any parts distinguished. That which is W\u0101h<\/span>id has the appearance of being divisible into separate parts, or being comprised of separate parts.<\/p>\n

Ah<\/span>ad is used to refer to the One, the sole One, the One who was not begotten and who has ever been alone, the One who has no second, the Indivisible.<\/p>\n

W\u0101h<\/span>id indicates the solitary Starting Point, the One Source, the First of the Many, from which all of creation has arisen as manifestations of Unity. From a human point of view, the manifestations may appear separate and diverse, but in reality they are One.<\/p>\n
