The Light,\u00a0 The Illuminator,\u00a0 The One who Reveals<\/h2>\n

The One who is the divine light of all the worlds. The One whose light who illuminates the heart.<\/p>\n

The One who is the light of wisdom and guidance. The One whose light clarifies, manifests and reveals.<\/p>\n

The One light by which the obscure is made clear. The One who clears away all darkness and directs aright.<\/p>\n

From the root n-w-r which has the following classical Arabic connotations:<\/p>\n

to give light, to illuminate, to fill with light
\nto clarify, to reveal, to make visible
\nto blossom, to be in bloom (revealed)
\nto be flaming, blazing and apparent to the senses
\nto enlighten, give counsel, give advice<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This name is used in the Qur’\u0101n. For example, see 24:35<\/p>\n

Surah an-Nur (24:35) has a beautiful, mystical passage from the Qur’\u0101n describing the Light:<\/p>\n

All\u0101h is the light of the heavens and the earth. A likeness of His light is as a pillar on which is a lamp – the lamp is in a glass, the glass is as it were a brightly shining star – lit from a blessed olive-tree, neither eastern nor western, the oil whereof gives light, though fire touch it not – light upon light. All\u0101h guides to His light whom He pleases. And All\u0101h sets forth parables for men, and All\u0101h is Knower of all things.<\/p>\n
