The One who is the owner and ruler of this world.<\/p>\n<p>The One who has supreme authority, and who is relied upon by everyone.<\/p>\n<p>The One who has all ruling power over all beings, and is ruled by none.<br \/>\nFrom the root m-l-k which has the following classical Arabic connotations:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>to possess, to own exclusively<br \/>\nto exercise authority to command<br \/>\nto have power over, command, reign<br \/>\nto have dominion over, to have ruling power<br \/>\nto have kingship<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This name is used in the Qur&#8217;\u0101n. For example, see 59:23<\/p>\n<p>The name\u00a0<i>Malik<\/i>\u00a0signifies king, while the name the name\u00a0<i>M\u0101lik<\/i>, by virtue of the \u0101 which intensifies the meaning, signifies something that is in some way greater than a king, and is often translated as master or lord.
